Water and Development in Bangladesh

A Retrospective on the Flood Action Plan

Peter P. Rogers

Professor, Environmental Engineering, Harvard University

The devastating and recurring floods in Bangladesh are not so much natural disasters as they are the consequences of policies gone awry. Peter Rogers has been involved with development of the lower Ganges since 1966. In this seminar he will analyze the contentious history of water and development in Bangladesh, including the Farakka Dam, and discuss possible solutions for the recurring flood crises.
